LOLER Regulations & Chain Maintenance
The use of all forklifts is covered under the Health & Safety regulations Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) and PUWER98.
Any forklift over 12 months old should have a 'Report of Thorough Examination' - a formal inspection of the safety-related components of the equipment - rather like the MOT.

Legal requirements
The requirement for the thorough examination is embedded in the Health & Safety legislation. One of the most important factors is that the operator must be able to produce a copy of the Thorough Examination Certificate when required to do so by an enforcement officer.
Fork Truck Direct has an independent department accredited by the CTFS to carry out Thorough Examinations in accordance with their Quality Assurance Procedural Code. Thorough Examinations should be carried out on all lifting equipment more than 12 months old at least once a year, or more frequently, subject to the use or application.
