What is forklift servicing?
Forklift servicing involves the regular maintenance, inspection, and repair of forklifts to ensure their safe and efficient operation. It typically includes tasks such as fluid checks, filter replacements, brake inspections, and overall performance assessments.
Why is forklift servicing important?
Forklift servicing is crucial for maintaining the safety, reliability, and longevity of your forklift. Regular servicing helps identify and address potential issues before they become major problems, reduces the risk of breakdowns, improves productivity, and ensures compliance with safety regulations.
How often should I have my forklift serviced?
The frequency of forklift servicing depends on various factors such as the manufacturer’s recommendations, usage intensity, and operating environment. As a general guideline, it is recommended to have a forklift serviced every 250 to 500 hours of operation or at least once a year.
Can I service my own forklift or does it need to be done by a professional?
While there are some basic maintenance tasks you can perform on your own, it is advisable to have professional technicians service your forklift. They have the expertise, specialized tools, and knowledge of manufacturer guidelines to perform thorough inspections, detect hidden issues, and ensure proper servicing.
Our team of forklift engineers are experts in their field. They’ve seen it all and are here to help. They can talk to you about your fleet, what to expect for your forklifts and recommend the best maintenance, parts and servicing to suit your needs.
What are the benefits of regular forklift servicing?
Regular forklift servicing offers several benefits, including enhanced safety, reduced downtime, improved performance, increased lifespan of the equipment, minimized repair costs, compliance with regulations, and better fuel efficiency. It helps identify and address potential problems early on, preventing major breakdowns and accidents.
How long does a forklift servicing usually take?
The duration of forklift servicing can vary depending on the type of service being performed, the size and condition of the forklift, and the service provider’s efficiency. Typically, a routine servicing session can take anywhere from a few hours to a full day.
What should I expect during a forklift servicing appointment?
During a forklift servicing appointment, the technician will conduct a thorough inspection of various components such as engine, hydraulics, brakes, tires, electrical system, and safety features. They will perform necessary maintenance tasks, replace worn-out parts, lubricate components, and conduct functional tests to ensure proper operation.
How much does forklift servicing cost?
The cost of forklift servicing can vary depending on factors such as the type and size of the forklift, the extent of the service required, and the service provider’s pricing.
We work with many of our customers through servicing contracts to ensure that their fleet is taken care of and any regular checks are carried out when needed. We use a Service Management System that gives you access to all the work we have carried out on your fleet, so you know what’s been done, when and what needs to be done going forward.
Are there any legal requirements for forklift servicing in the UK?
While there are no specific legal requirements for forklift servicing in the UK, employers have a legal duty under the Health and Safety at Work Act to ensure that equipment, including forklifts, is safe to use. Regular servicing helps fulfill this duty and ensures compliance with regulations like LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations) and PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations).
Can I schedule forklift servicing at my own facility or do I need to take it to a service center?
Our team are mobile and can come to site to service your forklifts, to minimise any downtime. We pride ourselves at being able to come to site quickly when you need us and we respond to all service calls on average within 3 hours.
The team also carry many standard forklift parts with them, so most repairs or maintenance can be discussed and done when they attend. In cases where a part isn’t available we are also able to order and supply parts of most forklift brands, and can have them to your site quickly to carry out the required repairs.
When it comes to keeping your business running, it is important to make sure you maintain your forklifts, whether you have one, or a whole fleet. We hope that this has been helpful to answer some of your questions.
